MTT Strategy Guide

MTT's are Multi Table Tournaments which basically means there are alot of players on several tables at the beginning of the tournament. Every MTT comes to the final table which is, when only 9 players are left playing on only one table.

There are various Multi Table Tournaments out there in the online poker world. There are the freerolls where no buy-in is needet, there are the guaranteed where the pokerrooms fixes the price money pool to a limit - for example: A tournament "$5.000 GTD" has $5.000 in the price money pool undepending of the number of players) and there are "normal" buy-in tournaments where every player buys in with a amount of money plus a small tournament fee. The total amount of this money will be spent on the first places depending on the number of players.

At first it should be the goal to reach the first break. Play only premium hands and don't take to high risks. You don't need to be the chipleader or even near to it. You only have to be enough chips to play after the first brake. If you have avarage chips it should be enough.

Play well timed agressive! This means you should push your good hands, but immediatily fold bad or avarage ones. The number of hands you can play increases if you are in late position. If a hand is good enough to see the flop, it should be good enough to raise preflop! But remember: It's all about your position! Avoid raising with avarage cards if you are in the early position. This can lower your stack really fast later in the tournament when the blinds are big. Stay focused, your goal after the first break are the paid places.

But also don't be afraid to bet all your chips! An all-in play with premium cards well timed can be a chip-booster for you and can make you the chipleader or at least bring you near to him. Always consider every aspect of the game when going all-in! Watch your position and know your opponents!

Try to make as much chips as possible from premium hands! This is very important - if you have a really good hand, don't be afraid of someone having a better hand! But raise carefully. Don't raise too much or your opponents will know you have a premium hand and fold to you. Raise carefully and the chances are much higher your opponents will call you and the pot gets big.

On the opposite you also have to protect your chips. This means you don't just call a preflop raise cause you have a hand which might get good. If someone raises preflop, your hand should be good enough for you to reraise and be comfortable with it, otherwise it may be the better option to just fold. Calling with weaker hands just to see that you don't even have a good hand after the flop lowers your stack rapidely. Avoid doing this.

Also don't always fall for it if you are late position. If you have a preflop early position raiser and a middle position caller then it might be the right choice to fold a good looking hand (such as pocket tens or pocket jacks). There is a high chance one of your opponents has better cards then you and you have to fold after the flop. So don't waste your chips on this!

Follow this guide and your chances increase of doing good at the Multi Table Tournaments of your choice!

Good luck!
